GEMmy Awards

A tradition launched by the former Midwest Travel Writers Association, the GEMmy Awards are presented by the MTJA to recognize outstanding attractions, sites, events, accommodations, restaurants, drives, walks and excursions we have come across in our travels. The goal is to shine a light on travel “gems” that might fly a bit under the radar to help bring them to the attention of new prospective visitors.

Mark Twain Awards

The Mark Twain Awards are presented annually for excellence in travel writing and editing. The MTJA is proud to carry on this fine tradition initiated by the former Midwest Travel Writers Association in 1955. The competition is open to MTJA members in good standing. Awards are presented in multiple categories; the journalist producing the most outstanding work annually is recognized as the “Mark Twain Travel Writer of the Year.”

It’s great to be able to interact and work with writers who are interested in writing about Midwest destinations. MTJA is an important resource for us.
